The next FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil in 2014. Very shortly national teams from around the world will be gearing up for the competition. The United States participates in the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). “The hexagonal” (final round) determines the three teams which would advance to the World Cup finals. The fourth place team would have to win an inter-confederation competition to try and qualify for a place in the Cup.
Daniel J. “Danny” White was recently introduced as the new director of UB’s Division of Athletics. He will be looking to strengthen UBs. programs and raise much needed funds from Alumni. I believe he could attract attention to the university, its programs, while raising funds by sponsoring a game(s) to the U.S. National Soccer Team. U.B Stadium seats 29,020 and has room for standing room sales behind the goals, raising capacity to 32-33,000. Bring in the Canadian National Team for a match. The stadium is conveniently located 12 miles west of the Canada and 110 miles southeast of Toronto – Canada’s largest city. The game should be a sell out. Not only does the U.S. get a new match site, the University attracts revenue that should be used to strengthen its D-1 Soccer program, and the area as a whole gets a tourism boost..
